Antioquia, June 6, 2025. The international demand for Colombian cannabis genetics has grown exponentially, positioning in vitro plants as the preferred method of export thanks to their phytosanitary conditions and genetic stability. For this reason, the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA) in the last five years has inspected 6,075 units of cannabis planting materials that have already conquered several countries in Asia and Europe.

Within the work carried out daily by the ICA, through the inspection points located in ports, airports and border crossings of the country, is to guarantee compliance with the requirements demanded by the countries of destination, ensuring that exporters maintain real access so that agricultural products such as cannabis planting material can enter several territories of the world due to the efficiency of the plants.

This 2025, 60 units of in vitro material were shipped for the first time to Israel, led by the company Medellín Labs and Richmond Seeds being the exporting company. Throughout this process, the ICA has also made it viable to export these seeds in vitro to the United Kingdom, Switzerland and the European Union, opening up new opportunities in very demanding markets.

With these achievements, the ICA and several companies in the sector continue to team up to position Colombia as a global leader in cannabis genetics and in vitro propagation, paving the way for more efficient plants, which meet all phytosanitary standards and that are committed to a revolution in scientific medicine.
